Deception Pass is the most visited state park in Washington for good reason. Miles of scenic shoreline, quiet trails through groves of ancient trees, and abundant wildlife makes Deception Pass State Park a rewarding destination for people of all ages and interests.

Anacortes Kayak Tours has been working in partnership with Deception Pass State Park creating memories for thousands of families over the last five years by offering the most family-friendly kayak trip in the San Juan Islands.

On the north side of Deception Pass, 0.5 miles north of the famous bridge, is a quiet and protected area known as Bowman Bay. Your kayak tours depart from the lovely beach here, gliding out under the silent majesty of old growth Fir, Cedar, and Hemlock trees.

Although the waters underneath the Deception Pass Bridge draw millions of visitors who come to watch the turbulent currents, it is the much calmer water just outside of the Deception Pass narrows that attracts sea kayakers and wildlife viewing enthusiasts from around the world.

Our family friendly sea kayaking trips take advantage of this quiet water as we explore the water’s edge in search of seals, porpoise, sea stars, and an amazing diversity of sea life.

Having been awarded the marine activities concession by Washington State Parks and Recreation, we are the exclusive sea kayaking tour outfitter in Deception Pass State Park. Read more about Deception Pass State Park and its history.

What you need to know to get ready for your family kayak trip!

Megan — thank you in particular for the fine shopping and meal planning. The boys and I were joking that we ate better during the trip than we did at home the past 2 months (due to baseball and the need for lots of hasty meals.) We certainly didn’t lose weight.

Thanks too to Tiffan and Pete, our guides. They really made the trip special. I can’t say enough about their expert planning, and the fun we had with their local knowledge. I’m not normally a “guided tour” kind of guy, but this trip was the better for everything they brought to the table.

Pete, Matt, and Andrew Noone
