If a Half-Day kayak trip is not enough, but there just isn’t enough time to go with us on a Multi-day kayaking trip, then you’re probably a good candidate for our five hour adventure to the small cluster of uninhabited islands in Burrows Bay. This trip provides abundant opportunities for great wildlife viewing, including perhaps the best area in Washington State for encountering one of the smallest porpoise species in the world, the Harbor porpoise. Seals frequently approach our kayaks, and much of the trip is spent in Rosario Strait along the favored route of the Orca whales.
Like our Half Day trips, this trip starts from specialized kayak docks in our private marina. The itinerary from there varies according to the prevailing conditions, the desires of the group, or the Whale Report of the day. Your guide will escort you out to the islands, keeping a close watch out for anything interesting that you might want to see. Several small “pocket beaches” provide areas to land mid-trip for a lunch or snack, and many groups climb up to the beautiful historic lighthouse station on the west side of Burrows Island. The majority of the tours are able to circumnavigate all three of these spectacular islands if conditions permit.
We usually only run one 5-hour kayaking trip per day, allowing us to vary the departure times in order to take maximum advantage of the tidal currents which makes the paddling easier (downhill, both ways, if possible). This is great for paddling, and fantastic for wildlife, but the trips do fill quickly and it is highly recommended that you call early to make your reservation!
