One Week to Summer!

The final week of spring sea kayaking is upon us! We have just one more week until Solstice, and the longest day of the year.

Last week's multi-day trips went well. We had two trips out to Cypress Island and the weather cooperated with both of them. We even had one morning of fog which made for a beautiful experience for our guests. I love those kind of mornings, the fog weaves through the treeline giving each tree a character of it's own. Stillness prevails on these mornings as power-boats wait until it clears to leave the harbors. All we hear is the sounds of water gently lapping at the shoreline and the sharp exhalations of seals and porpoise.

Eagles have been out in force lately. We had one trip that must have seen about 15 individuals roosting in the Douglas Firs. All of the trips have been seeing porpoise, seals, and large groups of Alcids (the bird family that includes Puffins). One "lucky" group even caught a glimpse of a "rosy bottomed skinny-dipper". It is still unclear who was more surprised.

Right now we have a family out at Cypress Island for a 3 day adventure. Our guides have called in to say that they are having a blast. I should mention that this lucky family includes not one, but two sets of twins!! Talk about busy parents! Our own little boy keeps us running, I can't imagine two of him, let alone two sets of him.
